FLASH floods and landslides have affected parts of Penang after a tropical rainstorm battered the state for most of the day, leading to the usual traffic congestion and public unease.
Social media posts revealed that flooding occurred in Bayan Baru, just hours after its member of parliament, Sim Tze Tzin, had inspected a monsoon drain to alert local officials about clogged drainage systems.
In addition to Bayan Baru, other areas affected by rising floodwaters included Air Itam and Kepala Batas on the mainland.
In Balik Pulau, a minor landslide occurred near the main road from George Town. Meanwhile, the heavy rain also caused traffic congestion as roads filled with weekend shoppers.
Although the rain has subsided in several areas, meteorological forecasts suggest it will continue throughout the remainder of the day. – September 7, 2024.
