SUBANG JAYA, April 14 — Authorities have reportedly closed both evacuation shelters set up after the April 1 gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights.
According to a report in Utusan Malaysia, the two temporary shelters — at Masjid Putra Heights and Dewan Camelia — were fully vacated yesterday, following confirmation last week that the affected housing areas were safe for return.
“So they all made their own family arrangements. Some intended to return to their own homes, some stayed with relatives, and some went straight to rental housing,” Petaling district Disaster Committee chairman Huzunul Khaidil Mohamed was quoted as saying.
“There were also victims and families who immediately took up the incentives provided by the government, such as homestay accommodations through Airbnb, and some were sponsored by members of parliament to move temporarily into hotels.”
He reportedly said the last group of 60 families left by 2pm yesterday.
The gas pipeline explosion and ensuing fire on the second day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri damaged 237 properties, injured 305 people, and affected nearly 400 vehicles.
